SUNGLASSES AND DESIGNER SUNGLASSES

A GENERAL REVIEW INTO WHY SUNGLASSES ARE IMPORTANT AND WHAT REGULATIONS THEY HAVE TO MEET

Sunglasses are an essential part of any wardrobe. Largely sales are through a fashion attraction but we can't forget their real purpose as protection eyewear. Climate is constantly changing and the general public's awareness of damaging UV radiation is increasing.

Sunglasses actually stop 100% of damaging UV radiation through a protective coating; this is not the tint 'colour' itself. So you need to ensure you always buy your sunglasses from a reputable seller, as many fake/replica sunglasses have a nice fashionable tint with out the UV blocker! There have been cases of people getting UV damage to their eyes from not wearing eyewear regulation meeting sunglasses. Increasingly, sunglasses shops are being asked about the lenses and their protection rather than what style to choose. With manufactures becoming more aware of this trend you will see increased numbers of sunglasses on the market providing polarised and blue light protection. These are not essential and are in addition to your UV protection but help to ensure the wearer is more comfortable behind their sunglasses, with less squinting.

Buying sunglasses can be broken down into two sections:

Designer sunglasses, purchased for fashion

Most of the leading brands have their own ranges of designer sunglasses, designed to make you feel confident and ahead of the crowd. Many of these designer sunglasses have lightly coloured fashionable tints, designed to be worn in the evening (not legal for night driving). Even with their elegant frame designs and colours they still have to meet UK regulations for UV protection, so as long as you are buying from a reputable sunglass dealer you’ll be getting full eye protection.

Practical sunglasses, purchased for protection from sun glare

A good tip to choosing the correct sunglasses for people that suffer from sun glare is to go for brands that only make sunglasses! Or brands that at least started off in the sunglasses market before expanding to cloth etc. These brands need to manufacture sunglasses to a good quality in order to achieve high sales as they are not relying on brand selling power.

One of the top selling brands that excel in this market is Maui Jim sunglasses. Ask most people if they have heard of this sunglass brand and the reply would probably be no, unless they have a set! In these cases the reply would be "wouldn't leave the house without them!" These brands sell through word of mouth, so their sunglasses have to deliver on quality and protection.
