PRESCRIPTION SUNGLASSES
Extreme-eyewear.co.uk is a supplier of prescription sunglasses and designer prescription sunglasses.
High street opticians typically have a poor selection of prescription sunglasses, normally pushing you towards getting a normal prescription frame with a tint. At extreme-eyewear we believe needing prescription glasses should not stop you wearing designer sunglasses fitted with your prescription.
For this reason extreme-eyewear.co.uk has selected designer sunglasses from leading manufacturers that we can successfully fit your prescription into.
In order to achieve this we take the designer sunglasses and match their lens curve and dimensions on to your prescription. Creating prescription sunglasses that when worn look no different to non-prescription sunglasses.

HOW CAN I FIND WHICH SUNGLASSES ARE AVAILABLE IN MY PRESCRIPTION?
After your sight test you will be given a copy of your spectacle prescription (by law your optician has to supply you with a copy). The prescription is divided into two sections, your Right and Left eye. Each eye can have either one (Sph) or three values (Sph Cyl and Axis).
- 1) One value – this will be the Sph (sphere) which will be either plus (+) or minus (-). Some prescriptions may have the symbol DS in the Cyl section, in which case still leave the Cyl and Axis at 0.00.
- 2) Three Values – this will be Sph, Cyl and Axis. The Sph and Cyl will either be written in plus (+) or minus (-) and the Axis is a number between 1 and 180. It is possible to have a 0.00 (also written as Plano, zero or ∞) value for the Sph with a plus (+) or minus (-) value for the Cyl but if there is an Axis stated, you will always have a value for the Cyl.
If you have any queries regarding your prescription, please contact us before making a purchase - our trained staff will be happy to help you with any questions.
There are two locations on our site where you can enter your prescription:
- 1) On our home page or
- 2) on the bottom of every product page
Once you've entered your glasses prescription into the pop-down menus, click 'find eyewear' and our site will only show you the sunglasses available in your prescription and store the prescription for ordering.
OPTICAL TERMS YOU WILL COME ACROSS
- Wrap-Around Prescription Lenses
- These are required when choosing sunglasses with a large front curve (wrap-around sunglasses). Using these lenses is essential in order to maintain the curve when we make the sunglasses up in your prescription. If this type of lens is required our website will automatically select the correct lens for the sunglasses you have chosen.
- Polarised Filter
- This is a filter that can be incorporated into the prescription lenses stopping horizontal reflections and glare, being a great benefit for drivers, water activities (sailing, fishing etc) and snow activities (skiing/hiking). Any surface that's flat and reflective, tarmac, water and snow reflect the suns rays in the form of glare. A polarised filter eliminates these reflections making your vision more comfortable and reduces the blinding glare.
- Mirror Coating
- A reflective coating that can be incorporated onto the front surface of the prescription lenses for cosmetic appearance. Available in a variety of colours.
- Graduated Tint
- Fashion tint that decreases in depth of colour from the top of the lens to the bottom. Usually very dark brown/black through to a very light tint on the bottom of the lenses.
- UV Protection
- This is a protective layer that stops harmful UV rays from passing through the prescription lenses. All the prescription sunglasses we supply come as standard with this protection.
