EASY RULER
We were not happy with the idea of supplying prescription glasses using UK average measurements, as this incorporates the chance of distortion, dizziness and loss of visual clarity to a user.
So at extreme-eyewear we developed our own ‘Easy Ruler’ which enables our customers to take their own measurements at home, our qualified lab technicians can then accurately make up your glasses.
The process – on receiving your order we post out our ‘Easy Ruler’ which you will receive in a day or two, take the measurements yourself in the comfort of your own home and either email, fax or phone the results back to us.
We do not charge any extra for this service.
AVAILABLE PRESCRIPTION SOLUTIONS
SINGLE VISION PRESCRIPTION IN THE WHOLE LENS (DIRECT GLAZE)
You are supplied with glasses where we are able to supply prescription lenses glazed into the WHOLE frame.
Advantages:
- One piece glasses
- No insert to separately clean
- wide field of view
- Cosmetically pleasing
Both Oakley and our own WRAP-AROUND Lenses enable you to choose a wrap-around style frame even in prescription!
SINGLE VISION PRESCRIPTION INSERT (OPTICAL INSERT)
Non-prescription glasses where an optical insert is supplied (glazed with your prescription) to sit behind the glasses.
Advantages:
- Ideal for contact lens wearers (insert can be removed if wearing contacts)
- Replaceable main sunglass lenses available to sit in front of your inserts (have different lens colours for different light conditions)
BIFOCALS AND VARIFOCALS
Our number one priority is your vision so at this stage we can not offer these lenses. We are however working on a system that will enable us to, so we’ll keep you informed!

YOUR EYEWEAR PRESCRIPTION
We recommend getting an eye test by a registered opticians every two years (*for medical reasons it may be necessary to go more regularly, ask advice from your optometrist). Your vision is our our number one concern. As such, we will not accept any prescriptions that are older than 2 years.
It is not ethical for us to produce prescription glasses over the internet for complex prescriptions (over + or – 7) or children under 18 years of age, and so we will only dispense such eyewear from our shop in Xscape, Castleford.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR PRESCRIPTION
Prescriptions can be written down in a variety of ways, so to make it easier for you and to reduce the risk of errors we have developed our site to accept all formats of prescriptions. This means all you have to do is enter your prescription into our site exactly as you see it on your copy.
The layout for a vision prescription will include:
- Sphere - can be one of three values:
- Zero (also written as 0.00, -, ‘left blank’, and the infinity sign: ∞
- Minus sign (-), followed by your prescription e.g. -2.75
- Plus sign (+), followed by your prescription e.g. +2.75
- Cyl - can be one of three values:
- Zero (also written as 0.00, -, ‘left blank’, and the infinity sign: ∞
- Minus sign (-), followed by your prescription e.g. -2.75
- Plus sign (+), followed by your prescription e.g. +2.75
- Axis
- A value between 1 and 180
- Add
- Always a (+) value.
Our site does not accept the ‘add’ figure yet as we currently don’t make-up varifocals or bifocals, the reason? – we don’t feel that the technology available over the internet is accurate enough to ensure you will receive good vision from these lenses.
